200ci to 351 Cleveland swap ???

I own a 69 coupe with a 200 ci straight 6 installed and a 3 speed transmission. I have come across a 351 Cleveland and am debating whether or not to buy it. I am know a lot must be done to put the 351 in. I am trying to figure a ball park figure for what needs to be done to swap the motors (i.e. do I need a whol enew transmission or just a conversion? Will I need to improve my suspension? Will a performance clutch be neccessary? etc). If you have made such a switch or are a generally more informed person than myself please help me out and let me know what I am gegtting myself into. Thanks.

Does your mustang have 4 lug wheels? Im not sure with the 69, but I believe ford was still using different steering and rear end components for the 6 bangers. If it is you can run whats in there, but its not the safest way to go. 6cyl spindles are pretty weak. Your transmission should bolt up, as the 351C uses the sbf bellhousing pattern, though it may not hold up long.

Re: 200ci to 351 Cleveland swap ???

your putting alot more power on a car that was designed for a straight 6, the suspension needs to be beefed up, a C-4 wouldn't last long at all, a C-6 or a more modern one would be better, the rear end will need to be replaced. and change atleast the front breaks to disk, and the sigle cylender master cylinder should be upgreaded to a duel.
I was going to change my 200 out with a v-8 but decied against it.
i got a 65 coupe thats been in my family since it was new.
good luck on this swap.

Well this is a pretty old post, but I figured I'd say that in 69 they already had dual master cylinders, in 67 if was a federal mandate. (so any and all cars in the US should have a dual master after that)

Really? I didn't know that. thanks. thats the one thing I don't like about my 65 200 coupe, but I do like it original.
