clutch cable question

I bought a 92 coup the car would not enguage until 4000 rpm i found that the previous owner installed new clutch cable the cable was to short which had the clutch enguged i removed cable because there is no way to adjust it so i cut the steele sheath to allow cable to lengthen my question is there is a half inch still between fork and back of bellhousing should i cut more off?

you should buy a new cable that is right for the car........ also you might want to check the quad. to make sure thats not the problem as well.... but modding the cable I wouldnt do it...thats just asking for trouble
