Fuel Pump Issues
Hello to all,
Several years ago i replaced the motor in my 67 coupe with a 351. I had a double roller chain put on in hopes of avoiding problems with stretch and loss of timing. When the chain was replaced the line up pin for the gear and fuel pump eccentric were not replaced with a longer one. Consequently the fuel pump eccentric did not seat properly and the pin sheared off. An electric pump was added and now i have nothing but problems. One person tells me the pump is overheating, but the pump is desinged for external use, the pump is pulling dirt and rust from the tank or the pump is just plain weak. Has anyone else had a similiar problem and what was the fix. vsejr |
Re: Fuel Pump Issues
I havent had this problem, mostly because I still ran a mechanical fuel pump when I had a motor in my car. I would just make sure you have a good filter before the pump, along with following the basics with electric pumps. Make sure it's mounted as close to the tank as possible.
What type of pump is it by the way? You could also look into a fuel pump controller, but I don't know anything about those specifically. |
Re: Fuel Pump Issues
There are two types of fuel pumps. Push and pull just like an electric fan. Make sure of your placement and the style you have.

Re: Fuel Pump Issues
I added a electric pump in my 65 due to vaporlock issue. i added it externally right after the tank ran power to the ignition with a inline fuse grounded it to the tail light buckets and added 2 inline filters. i removed the manual pump and used a block off plate. it works like a charm i even used a $30 universal pump still kicking after 3 yrs and my car is a daily driver.
