Stock Fuel Pump 1978 302
The old 51 ford truck i own the previous owner installed a 1978 302 in it with a electric fuel pump and no fuel pressure gauge .Sinse the motor is pretty much stock and i seem to have a lot of fuel issues. I thought about just trying to reinstall the stock manual pump. My question is when i purschase the stock pump will i need any kind of fuel pump push rod part .Small Block chevys have to have that but i am not sure about this 302. If i donot do the stock fuel pump and being the motor is pretty much stock what electric fuel and fuel pressure gauge should i run. The engine does have a alum intake and 600 edlebrock carb.I also have a vacumn leak and no idle but i will post that on another post.
Thanks in advance Steve Ocala Florida |
Re: Stock Fuel Pump 1978 302
Okay well basically, what drives the pump is nothing but an offset wheel attached to the timing chain sprocket called an eccentric. I doubt they actually went through the trouble of opening up the timing cover to remove it. If the did you can always buy the eccentric at most auto part stores.
I must agree with you that this is a rock solid part that doesn't need to be complicated. If it works good then whats the problem. here is what they look like Mustang Parts from Mustangs Plus*::*Fuel System*::*Fuel Pump Hardware*::*260/289/302/351W Ford Racing Fuel Pump Eccentric, 3/8" Bolt |
