What year Mustang?

I have a need to pick some brains. I have a customer that brought in a 1966 Mustang and wanted it stripped to metal and repainted. I noticed when it came in that it did not have the side trim (3 fingers) and asked again about the year. He told me again that is was indeed a 66. when I stripped the car down I expected to find filled holes for the trim. No such thing. There are no and never were any holes for the trim. Were there and 66 Mustangs that were produced without the side trim? It looks like a 64 to me, but I want to ask. It does have a 66 grill.

As far as I know all early mustangs had the side trim. What instrument cluster does it have?

I was told that the Srpint package came with side trim delete and a painted pin stripe. The instrment cluster matches my 66 Mustang.
