Thinkin about takin a hacksaw to my tailpipes
Hehe..
Just thinkin about puttin dumps on the car and gettin rid of the tailpipes http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif The mufflers are 2 1/2 2 chamber flowmasters,Mac H-pipe,and 1 5/8 Mac long tube headers.. Sounds mean. If you got a lopey idle and want to really hear it then do it. I personally regret it and will have my tailpipes back on soon. Not that its loud but, it sounds better with tailpipes.

I love my dumps, but a hacksaw might not work as well as you might think. After hitting a large dead animal on the highway my exhaust got ripped off and my tailpipes were rubbing against my axles. I tried getting them off with a hacksaw but after about 5 minutes I realized it would've taken me at least an hour to get through the whole thing. I ended up taking it to a shop about a mile from my house and they got out a pnuematic cutting wheel and they were off in 5 minutes.

I have cut a few of these for my friends and they sound good. But the first time I tried to cut it, I used a hacksaw for about 3 minutes and said screw this..I went and got my jig-saw with a metal blade and cut it like butter...

I used a SAWZALL on my stock exhaust.
I put glasspack, ceramic coated, type mufflers that I bought at a swap meet on after sawing off the old tailpipes with a SAWZALL and the old stock mufflers too. I got a little more pull but the best was when I was at the liquor store (ha ha) This guy asked me if I had a 351 in it! It'll sound more mean with the tailpipes sawed off, for sure! The only thing...at about 1500rpm's, it will be extremely loud inside the car. You HAVE to have a kewl girlfriend like mine otherwise no one will want to ride with you. The load drone off the engine does get too loud for everyday driving. I'll be the first to admit it. If you will drive this car on other than the track I would strongly recommend keeping some tailpipes on it! |
I have 2.5 tail pipes. I had them off before x2, but both times I put them back on. The car is a LX, so it looks better with them on. The car sounds not as loud, which isn't good, but hey if I ain't got the power I ain't gonna try to sound like it? I should just leave em' off but my wife would kick my a'' if I took another trip to the exhaust shop! Hope this helps. Do you not like the sound or ???????? with em on I take it. I have the exact same exhaust setup as you except with dumps. I never had tailpipes on it with the exhaust so I can't tell you the difference. It's not obnoxiously loud to me at all, in fact I think it's quiet(maybe it's the longtubes is yours very loud with the pipes?). Sounds really mean when you get on it and I heard the dumps actually take away some of the drone... mine doesn't drone very bad. I'd say go for it!

I guess the main reason I was thinkin on doin this was,because (1) You can't see the tailpipes like you can on the LX's (2) I have a muffler on the passenger side that is hanging lower,just have to re-position it..I figured while I was doing this,I would just take the tailpipes off and see what it would be like run'n dumps.
