Next Phase Modification
I have done all the basics to my mustang. All the free stuff and exhaust and gears. Now there is so many options and i dont know where to go next. suspension, heads, intake, or i am thinking a new hood to make the car look cooler.

Do you have sub frame connectors? If not get some full lengths. Then go with some control arms. Then you can start saving for heads/cam/intake or maybe forced induction? http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

PeTro, have to decide what you want out of car. do you want street/strip? handling, street performance or what?

A nice hood can make a car, but before you go throwing on a mean looking hood....I'd get a nice set of heads, put in a beefier cam, and do the intake. Just my $.02.

I'm with LX Mike. That's a pretty involved question without knowing what you want from your car. I wouldn't do any engine work until you have money to make an impact. Don't do a cam unless you can afford heads or vice versa. Heads will make power regardless...but a cam will really wake them up. And a cam with stock heads is kind of a waste. A good suspension is always a great start, but if you're not looking for a corner carver...then it can take a back seat for a while. I've seen some speed density cars with bone stock motors and EXTREMELY well prepared suspensions run high 12s (read: VERY high 12s). But hey...12s are 12s. In any event...what do you want from your car?

Well although i want the hood i guess your right...i need something to back it up with. My plates already say RICE ETR and i have blackouts and a nice exhaust note. I want a nice street machine/weekend warrior that can eventually run mid 12's without sacraficing handling. So a bunch of engine mods and a solid suspension is what i am looking for. $ is what i need. I could afford the heads right now and i am not affraid to install them myself with a little guidance. Cams arent really expensive but i heard they were tough to put in.???

If I could start over again I'd do sub frames, control arms, 3.73's, exhaust, then NOS. And some good tires. Sounds like if you got an adjustable fuel pressure regulator you'd be ready for some NOS if your wanting inexpensive HP.

Money was a big issue with me so I sat down with a plan. I went for the looks while it was under warrenty, then as funds allowed I started with the basics like you. Gears, exhaust, pulleys. Then I added an intake, T-body, and subframe connectors. At the time I didn't have enough for heads and cam, though I knew I would eventually add them. Well this past july I finally added the heads and cam, and now my 3700lb convertible has gone from a 15.2 at 90mph stock to a current best of 13.1 at 106.03mph, but it was all done in stages. Check out my website for a list of 1/4 times associated with each set of mods. http://www.angelfire.com/pa2/killercanary
P.S.- a cam isn't that bad- if you have all the tools needed to do the job. When we did mine we ripped the motor out of the car. I had never done it before, and my cam install was made harder than most because it was a custom setup that I had to degree in- I couldn't use the intake centerline method. If you are willing to try and are patient, there is no reason you copuldn't do it yourself, that is if you have the right tools. ------------------ 1995 NA GT CONVERTIBLE BEST ET: 13.16 BEST MPH: 106.03 AFR's, FTI cam, edelbrock intake, EEC TUNER and lots more. http://www.angelfire.com/pa2/killercanary |
