DOH!!!

Hello everyone. I own a 97 Mustang and I have just incountered my first problem and hopegully my last. I was driving home and the "Check Ingine" light was "Flashing" and the sound of the engine was diffrent....it sounded more like a helicopter noise and when it was idle at a stop light it shook a lot more than it normally would. Anything thoughts...please email :silverbolt@telus.net

Thanks

The flashing engine light doesn't sound good. If it's solid it usually turns out to be emissions or a sensor or something somewhere. Your problem (without any additional info) could be bad. If you've still been driving it I would get it to a shop. Flashing light = bad!

Not sure if it could be related but...10 years ago I had an 89 Camaro that did the exact same thing (yes, it was fuel injected) - it turned out to be a bad MAF (Mass Air-Flow) sensor. The dealer replaced it twice, and the problem went away.

a few years ago i had a problem with my couger, and it too sounded like a helicopter. the problem was one of the spark plugs game loose and popped out. it ran really rough, cause of the 1 less cyl. not sure if thats your problem though, good luck!

Sounds like you have an O2 sensor that took a dump to me. The car has probably gone into limp mode to protect itself.

Probably be worth it to check the codes yourself, or bring it in and have them check it out on the diagnostic machine. Sounds like a problem that should be easy to find.

I had a similar problem with my 97 F150 with a 4.6. The light flashed and it would idle rough but would smooth out when it would rev up in the upper RPMs. It turned out to be two spark plugs. I would not take it to the dealership. It cost me 140 dollars for them to hook it up to the machine and change two spark plugs. Check your spark plugs first that may be your problem and could save you lots of money.

I second the o2 sensor.
