Spedometer on my 89 LX 5.0
I bought an 89 LX with a 5.0 about a year ago - when I bought it I was told it was all original. I'm selling the car now and the guy who wants to buy it emailed me and told me that all 89 LX's with 5.0L came with spedometers that went up to 140 - the one I have goes to 85. Anyone know if this is original or not?

The 140 mph speedometer was introduced part-way through the 1989 model year after the existing stock of 85 mph speedos were used up. Check your manufacture date on the doorjamb sticker, it's probably late '88 or early '89 which would explain the 85 MPH speedo in your Mustang.
If the buyer doesn't believe you, this info is available on other Mustang web sites he can check out for himself, such as 'Mustang GT' ( www.mustanggt.org ). Good luck with the sale. |
Could I put an American speedo in my car? It has the 200k\ph in it now...the 140 m\ph would be really cool! (89'GT Convt.)

Mr50, you cleared up my confusion as well, my car came with the 140mph speedometer and i heard that it came with the 85mph speedometer (not that i'm complaining http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/tongue.gif)
Big Bopper - i believe the calibration is all in the speedometer so i believe that it would be a straight swap. I think that the speedometer gear may also be the same, so all you would need is the American instrument cluster. ------------------ previous name: 84stangLX '84 Mustang 5.0 LX my LX '89 Mustang GT my GT |
