anyone with 3:55 gears please help......
hey....
ok, I just bought my first 5.0 like 2 months ago. The guy I bought it off of said it was all stock and i think it is accept for maybe gears. The car pulls way more than my brothers mustang which has 2:73's in it and revs way higher. so my question is what rpm are you at going like 100km/hr with 3:55's or 3:08's thanx alot |
It depends on the size of the tire. Go to the analyzer section on this web site and there is a calculator to figure this out for you.
I can tell you this. If you hit the rev limiter in 4th gear you are going about 128mph. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif ------------------ 351W 89 Mustang GT Convertible |
you could well have 3.08s in it stock (mine did) when im goin 80km/h in 5th with my 26.1"tire (235/60/15), i am at like 1400rpms or close to that.

my '89 GT has 3.55 gears and with i believe 24" tires (225/50ZR15 tires) and at 60mph it's at 2000rpm. Here's a test, go 60mph in 5th gear and if it accelerates the same as if it were going 30mph in 4th then you have gears. There's a HUGE difference in how the car responds with those gears than my '84 with 3.08 gears (there's also a large horsepower difference, but i can feel where each engine starts to pull and the '84 starts pulling like about 75 or 80).

For what it's worth:
I have 3.55 rear gears with 26.5" tires (225/ 60/15) on the stock 15" wheels. In fifth gear, I run about 1900 RPM @ 65 mph. |
thanx alot guys i'll check it out

Another way to tell for sure is to jack the rear of the car up and put a mark on the drive shaft and one on the tire, and count how many times the drive shaft turns for 1 turn (360*) of the tire. If the D/S turns approx. 3 1/2 times with one turn of the wheel you have 3.55s. 3 3/4 = 3.73 etc.
