identify this - early 80's

what is the silver box on the passenger side inner fender on early 80's carbed stangs. It is a little smaller than the duraspark box - it looks as though its a regulator for voltage or something like that...

just wondering,
thanks

Voltage Regulator.

this may sound dumb but what feeds into the votage regulator?? What does it do specifically?

I am not positive, but I think that it controls the output of the alternater by decting voltage drop. Newer mustangs that have the one wire alternaters have a internal voltage regulater.
