help fast!!!! need advice

i have my motor half apart, i have the upper intake off. I have a bad ticking noise and i pulled the tappet covers to see if i had any loose rockers and i dont!, so i think it is a lifter, but the question is will the rocker be loose if i have a bad lifter. i dont want to rip anything else apart if i dont have to thanks alot to who ever gives advice!!!!

i have a feeling that its NOT your lifters, i thought the same thing about my car as you and my rockers were fine, i ended up getting a stethascope (spelling?) and it was the freakin smog pump! yours could also be a rod bearing

Maybe this is too obvious, but are you sure it's not an exhaust leak?
