X-pipe versus H-pipe????????
 

Ok fellas, I want to hear your opinions on this much debated topic. Most of you with slightly older exhaust mods are running H-pipes-so, of course, you may be biased. The same goes for those of you who have newer mods and might have an X-pipe. Has anyone gone from an H to an X that can say if there was any performance gain from the different design? Anyone know someone who has? I'm looking to add headers and the intermediate pipe to complement my Flowmaster cat-back, and need some advice-is the X worth the extra expense (lots of X's in that question, eh?)Also, short tube vs. long tube...same question. I know that long tubes will provide more top end charge at the cost of lesser low end grunt than the shorties, but I will be adding gears (probably 4.10's) in the near future to compensate for any low end loss anyway. Still, the question remains the same. Thanks all.

There really is not enough HP difference for me to change to the X-pipe, besides I like the way the H-pipe sounds.

its not really an "old vs. new" as you seem to imply, x pipes aren't anything new. as far as power, its not worth the expense and hassle. on to headers, the long tubes due just hte opposite, they give you MORE low end torque. you should definently do long tubes.

I didn't mean to insinuate that X pipes were a new product. As long as I've been into hot-rodding (about 10 years or so), I've seen the ads for Dr. Gas X pipes. Goes to show they have in fact been around for at least that long. X pipes are, however, becoming very commonplace and are the new recommendation from a lot of Mustang shops. It could be because they cost more (hey, got to make a buck). In the new MM&FF letters section, the editor replied to a similar question by telling the writer to go with an H pipe. He said the difference in performance gains is debatable.
