What themostat to run

I have a 90 Coupe slowly transforming from a stone stock somewhat neglected state.

I need to swap out the original Tstat soon. Should I get a 160° unit?? I have a 3 core rad and a flex fan ( too many cracks in the stock plastic for my taste, and clutch was on its way out) On some of the hot days with the AC it got to 200° or a little higher and would bounce down then back up, sounds like the Tstat cycling to me. It used to never move off 170 previously.

So any suggestions for a mostly stock motor t stat temp would be appreciated

Don't go lower than a 180, and buy it from Ford. Stant sucks, and Ford is the only place I know of selling the correct t-stats (with the little bobble head bleeder that everyone calls a small bypass)

Ford OEM 180. With winter coming, you might want to get the correct t-stat instead (Ford OEM 192)

Good time to buy a new cap, too.

Take care

Hey, thanks for the Ford part alert. I found out the hard way about my PCV valve. I almost bought a Stant this weekend but could not decide what temp rating to go with. BTW I have a brand new Stant cap, went on with the new 3 row radiator back in March, should I also get a Ford one while I'm at the parts counter??

Stant t-stats suck, but their red lever pressure relief caps aren't bad. I usually recommend them. Whichever you use, make sure it's at least a 16 pound cap. 17 would be even better.
