Torque Converter-Which is rifgt for me?

Ok here goes. I have abasically stock 86 GT, only basic bolt on mods. I am in the process of putting a C-4 in it.(Yanked the spent T-5. Anybody need one?) I want the car to have a little bit more than factory stall, say foot brake at 200-400 above factory. What would be the best converter. Do I need more stall. Also plan on NOS at some point.(100 HP shot max)Car will have K&N, H-pipe, flowmasters, underdrive pulleys, 3.73 gears. Thanks in advance.

I say you need around 3000.
The advertised stall speed will change w/ the weight of your car and hp it makes.
Like.. a car the same weight as you but 150 hp more..will have a stall speed of say...3200 w/ the same converter you have that stalls at 2800 for you. get it???
I used to have an AOD car and w/ a 2200 converter..it seemed almost stock.
Look into changing the first gear in your c-4, redline clutches, and hardened input shaft.
You would rather do it once and be done w/ it.....

Not sure about C-4 cars, but most guys will recomend a 2800 stall for a basically stock mustang with an AOD. Like NOS said, as you raise your hp (and probalby peak power rpm), the stall rpm will get a bit higher.

converter stall is based on car weight and engine tq. if you want to foot brake the trans to 3000 you may need a stall of 3500 or 4000. foot brake stall is not the same. a 3000 stall converter may allow you to rev to 2000 depending on the motor. call p.a or dynamic and speak with them. they will ask you exact spec's on your car and give you the best converter.

juiceman is right of course. The stall speed is dependent on torque. What one wants for max acceleration is for the tranny to hook at the torque peak of the engine. On my mild 306 (300/350) the torque peak is around 3700-4000). For drivability purposes, I chose a TCI 2500 converter. I couldn't tell any difference seat of the pants and track times showed no difference from stock. I still wouldn't want a much higher one because it can kill drivability on the street. 2500-3000 is all you can stand in a street engine IMHO.

Thanx for the ideas. Right now I'm leaning towards a 10" with about 2400 foot brake stall. This is what Kenny Ford from S&K in Alabama recommended for me. He said it should flash stall somewhere around 2800 on the motor. I'm not sure what it will flash with 100HP shot of nos.
