O2 sensors?

I've heard these things are supposed to be replaced at 50K miles. I'm nearing 80K now and am only getting 15mpg. Is there anyway that I can clean these, or am I really going to have to spend the $$ and buy them?

You should probably get new ones. They're only about $60.00 from Brothers Performance Warehouse...

cad. you can try to clean them with an oxy/ace torch, but no guarantees. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

just replace them, i paid $58 for bosch ones from the auto store. just think of this, spend the money on O2 sensors, or spend the money on more gas for crappy milage

Well assuming the torch dosen't clean them, is it going to ruin them? I really don't feel like spending $120 on O2 sensors right now. I still need (ok... want) new gears to get this slug moving, and I wouldn't mind lowering too. I guess I just want to be convinced that it's worth the money to replace them.
Thanks

if you do it right, no. just get the tip a little red and thats it. it should take you 10 seconds the most for each one. like i said, it doesnt always work, but what do you got to lose? i have done this hundreds of times and no problem. remember your not trying to CUT it, just get it a little cheery red so you can burn off the crap.

$120???? i paid almost $60 for both of mine. bad O2 sensors can effect gas milage. so think of this, spend more on gas by filling up sooner, or buy the new O2 sensors and go longer before fill ups and get better MPG. which do u think will be cheaper in the long run?

Not to mention all of the extra wear you're putting on your engine from running too rich all the time. I bet your valves & ports look like crap. Be sure to disconnect the battery before starting work, and replace the fuel filter and plugs at the same time. Afterwards, dump in some of the best fuel system cleaner (not just injector cleaner) you can get to hopefully rid the engine of any carbon deposits.

The Boshe ones are like $60 a piece, autozone ones are $45 a piece. 15mpg isn't that bad man, averaged....I heard at 100k they should be replaced. Try driving slower, and not driving as hard, it just might work. =P
