damn, mutha,sh*t,kok. 'top secret' way to get the trans aligned??
pulled my trans last nite, came out easy and i thought, great, this'll be a breeze..hahahahehehe!!!
replaced the seal, installed the pilot bushing... triple checked the alignment of the clutch plate (with an alignment tool). tried for 2 hours to get it in, even checked and readjusted the clutch plate to be sure. I did check the bushing before i put it in, it fits on the tranny shaft.. so how bout it, there must be some secret to this, i have never had this much trouble before... ------------------ Black,84 GT,ground effects, shorty headers, 'open' dual exh.,302 HO(no pollution control crap)bored .060, 10.5" clutch, T5,89 ported heads, edelbrock Performer manifold, Edelbrock 2122 cam, 600 Holley, high volume oil pump, front P235/60/R15's, rear P245/60/R15's..... Some day (3:73 gears & N2O)!!! will this ever end???? |
I had the same problem. If you have the bellhousing already on, then hook up the cable to the fork. Then have someone step on the pedal as you put the trans in. It should pop right in. It did for me. It sound kinda half a$$ed, but it worked and there were no alignment problems when I took it out again.
Good luck |
I wish I could help you out, but I've never done a tranny job before! But, I am installing a new Tremec this weekend! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif
Was hoping that you could tell me how to replace the rear-main seal and pilot bearing. Does the seal just pop out with a screw driver? Thanks for your help and sorry that I couldn't help you out with your question. I just hope my tranny goes in right. thanks for the replies, i'll try it tonite, i've been trying to install the bell housing and trans at the same time..
the rear main seal is a bit tough to get out, but yes a screw driver works.. for the pilot bushing (if it's not the same size as needed) you may need a slide hammer, they fit really tight. ------------------ Black,84 GT,ground effects, shorty headers, 'open' dual exh.,302 HO(no pollution control crap)bored .060, 10.5" clutch, T5,89 ported heads, edelbrock Performer manifold, Edelbrock 2122 cam, 600 Holley, high volume oil pump, front P235/60/R15's, rear P245/60/R15's..... I spent several hours wrestling with my trans since it would not slide all the way in. Thank god it was on a lift at the time. Turns out all I had to do was start the 4 bolts that hold the trans to the bellhousing and Slooowwwlllyyy and evenly tighten them up, it just goes in baby. I was too chicken to try that assuming I would crack the aluminum bellhousing etc...
