Quick Shifting question

In my 99 V6 Mustang, I could shift that thing quickly enough to break the tires in second and third and it sounded like an automatic. In one gear and *BANG* into the next. In my GT, I have a heavy duty clutch and a short throw shifter with a short handle (it looks like it belongs in a Miata). I was trying real hard to shift quickly tonight but was a little disappointed. I wasn't really ragging on the car-shifting at about 5 grand or so. It hits 5K, jam the clutch in like I'm kicking through the floorboard and slam the shifter back like I'm pulling the T5 up through the console. Yet still, there's a slight pause in between gears. The clutch is very stiff and I'm wondering if it's that stiffness, combined with a matter of leverage with the short shifter versus a longer one that prevents me from shifting as quickly as I did with the stock shifter in my other car. Any input???
