Best NON - Synthetic oil for my motor !!! Give me your advise!
I need to know who makes the BEST NON-Syntheic Oil for my mustang. I bought a new crate motor from FORD and need to break it in so I need good oil!! Tell me what works best and the weight I should use in a hot environment!!

I'm guessing the best weight for breaking an engine in is the recommended weight oil. I believe for a 302 it would be 10W30.

Absolutely Valvoline 40w Racing Oil.

I live in south carolina and it gets into the 100's and I use 10W-30. Do not use oil from Penn. It is said to have a sediment that will mess up your engine. Valvoline or Havoline is said to be the best. Valvolione is a little better in my opinion.

Kendall, havoline, and Castrol 10-30/40. either one to break it in. i have used them all, and the one that doesnt sludge up, is Kendall GT1.

Castrol GTX gets a thumbs up from me.

In Amsoils four ball wear test(astm d4172)havoline does show less wear than valvoline,castrol and mobil-1. After break in why not go with race proven protection of a synthetic oil.

You're going to get a ton of opinions here but all I can tell you is that I've used nothing but standard Mobil 10-30 oil in my 1990 5.0 since I bought it brand-new in '90. I changed the original oil & filter at 1000 miles, then changed them both again at 2000. I've changed the oil and filter (Ford Motorcraft) every 2000 miles - without exception - since then. When I pulled my valve covers (to change the gaskets) @ 87,000 miles, the heads were shiny clean; no goo, not even discoloration except a tiny bit in one corner and that was very light. My lifters are quiet and my oil pressure remains at 50-60 lbs. on a hot day under a load. This may not prove Mobil is 'the best' oil, as I change my oil frequently, but I've raced this 5.0, it's seen triple digits fairly often and I've run in hot weather (90 degrees plus) and with all that over eleven years I've never seen the oil pressure drop more than 10 pounds (to around 45) under the worst conditions. Even at 112,000 miles, it doesn't burn oil, no lifter noises and the oil pressure remains constant and normal. I like Mobil 10-30 and I recommend it. |
Valvoline oil is JUNK. I work for a place that changes oil and we do about 100 cars a day. Cars that come in that had been using Valvoline, I always notice that the filters are all gummed up and the oil gets real thick and takes longer to draing verse others. Our main oil is Mobil and from what I have seen it is one of the best oils out there. I personally don't use it, I use Kendall 20-50 and think that it's a pretty good oil too. Also amongs all the other oils, I usually see that Pennzoil is'nt that bad. Castrol GTX is almost like a Valvoline but it gets really dirty fast. I don't see alot of people using Quaker State anymore so it's hard to compare it. This is just my opinion based on what I see everyday.

Just a thought on all these oils that get dirty fast - One of the most important jobs of motor oil is to remove dirt from the engine. They are supposed to get dirty, this is why you change the oil.
