Making my first trip to the track...

Hey everyone. I'm going to be making my first trip to the track because my new 3.73's are supposed to be here today...and I want to get my times before I add any mods...Well I was wondering what would be the best way to prepare my stang for the track? it's a 90 Lx Convertible AOD 5.0... How much air pressure in the tires...anything that would help...maybe an rpm to shift at...I shift at 4800 ...Whoever can help me out, I'd appreciate it...thanx in advance. Peace

Are you going to be using street tires or slicks or? If you are running street radials, I would keep the pressure at 32psi. Shift at 5800, and roll it off the starting line to reduce spinning your tires. Hope this helps.

no don't shift at 5800RPM, thats way too high for a stock motor, many people here will tell you to shift about 5300+/-100RPM
for air pressure, air your fronts up to 45psi for less rolling resistance, and take the rears down to 25 or so
when mine was an AOD, it was fastest when i shifted at 5300rpm and held the highest RPM that the brakes can hold at the light, then stomp it off the line, you probably wont spin any at all with a stock geared convertable AOD, make sure you do the 1-d-1 shift so you can shift it at a higher RPM,
i wouldn't expect your car to run any quicker than a 15.5, unless your are very close to sea level and its cool out, good luck
