T56

Can anyone say how different the versions are for GM's T56. I can get a second hand one here in Australia that GM run in their sedan that's rated at around 500ft/lb and also want to know if I can get a bell housing seperately to fit the 351W.

You want to take a General Motors 6 speed transmission and mate it to your 351 on you stang?

Man, I'm not sure you're going to find a bell housing that will fit, of course you could posssibly modify one, but I have no clue...sorry http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

Yes, we're putting together a stroked 351 looking at around 393/408 and running a 6-71 blower. We need about 720hp at the flywheel and want to run a manual 'box. The T56 comes out standard in a GM sedan in Australia so it's not too hard to pick one up for about USD$500-800 from a wrecker. It might last or if worst luck we could lunch them every couple of years and head back to the wrecker for another. It's just a thought but we'll probably end up TKO II instead or Richmondgear.

You may want to try calling D&D Performance in Wixom Mich. --> (248) 926-6220. I purchased my Tremec 3550 from them and they were very helpful. They sell T56's and the appropriate bells to fit mustangs - I think even the 351s, but not sure. You can also check out their website at www.ddperformance.com

Good luck, E

The input shafts on a Ford are not the same as they are for GM. So unless you change that then they wont work. As far as I know the T56 doesn't have a mechanical speedo gear its all elecronic to go with the newer all elecronic speedo sensors. I could be wrong, but... Hope this helps.

No it will not work. I had the same idea and i have call Hanlon motorsports and they told me that was not the same t56 that the viper have this one can fit, try to find at your local junkyard http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif)

Thanks for that everyone, I kinda figured it couldn't be that easy. Ford have a standard T5 in their 302 powered sedans down here that I can also get from the wrecker but that won't cope. The TKO II is my pick, it has a hefty torque rating and is a bit cheaper than the T56 but I'd be also interested to hear from anyone that has used a Richmond 5 or 6 speed instead since the cost is about the same. Anyone got any comments?

I have heard that Lakewood makes a bellhousing for this swap but you have to use a ford pressure plate and a GM clutch disk to get it to work. Also I am sure you will need a custom pilot bushing which shouldn't be too hard to come up with. Not sure on the speedo though. I guy I met on this board said he talked to Jegs (mail order) and they said it could be done in this manner.
