Do I need new/rebuilt heads???
I have an 89 LX 5.0 that burns oil when I go to full throttle. I can also hear a ticking noise from the engine. Otherwise engine runs very strong. It is a high mileage car. What could be the cause of this problem? Valves? Valve seals? Rockers? Please help.

'burns oil'??? a motor either burns oil or it does'nt... if your seeing smoke at higher RPM's, I'd say the rings are weak (my motor did it, smoked like hell above 1/2 throttle. but nothing at idle to 1/2)....
a 'ticking' noise to one is a knock to another... could be rod bearings, wrist pins, lifters, etc..... they all run 'strong' till they go BOOM!!!!! suggest, taking on a motor building project.... ------------------ 84 GT,shorty headers, open dual's, bored .060, 10.5" clutch, T5, 89 heads, edelbrock Performer manifold, matched cam, 600 Holley.. |
You need to do a compression test, both wet and dry.
