I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it was aftermarket, and here's why.

V8 Mustangs all had 140mph speedos, except for Cobras, which had 160mph ones. The SSP cars (all LX coupes) had factory 160mph speedos. I don't think Ford ever made a 180mph one.


IIRC, the 4-cylinder cars were 85mph, while the V6s were 120.

Are you sure it wasn't 180 kilometers/hr.?
Could have been a Canadian "cobra". I think (could be completely wrong) that they had 180 kph speedo's, but they're not "real" cobras.

I have seen "Canadian" Fox-body Cobra's w/ 180 km/h speedo's.. they can be burried EASILY!

well on my 1990 CANADIAN COBRA goes up to 240kmh........the last number is 230 but there is another line after it

the Canadian cobras may be exact same as a american gt but it is a cobra none the less

i have seen a saleen speed do 200 and i know it said 180

From what I have heard ane read. The only real Cobra (FOX BODY) was produced in 1993. All other "Cobra's" were GT's with a Cobra sticker slapped on them. Speedo's on Cobra's were the same as the LX's depending on the year. For the most part 87-88 5.0 Stangs had the 180KM/H speedo then in 89-93 they came with 230-240KM/h speedo standard.
