Carfax again please and oil ?
Hey guys, I just bought a 91 Cougar XR7. I know it's not a stang but at least it has a 302, even if it is wussed out heh. Anyway, I need a carfax, sorry to be such a needy PIS (Pain in the Sac) http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif
VIN: 1MEPM62T3MH619789 Also, the guy has been running Castrol Syntec in it for as long as he's had it. Which I'd say (guessing), for about 40-60k. Right now it has 110k. I planned on converting back to a quality conventional oil and good filter. What do you guys think about this? Right now it runs perfect and doesn't burn any oil. Thanks Bob |
Castrol syntec is a conventional oil. The oil molecules have been hydro crack to give them a smaller and more evenly sized molecules. But it is not a true synthetic oil like the lable claims. Mobile took Castol to court for claiming their oil to be synthetic. Use what ever oil you like but dont pay more for something your not getting.

I'm not sure if it was Syntec. He said it was a Full Synthetic but I fail to recall the name. But my question was specifically, what would be your reactions to returning to conventional oil after running synthetic for so long?

kinda slow eh... http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

I wouldn't. If the engine has always used synthetic, and runs great, with no leaks or noises, leave it be. The synthetic oil bonds to the metal in a manner that conventional oil can't. It's your call though.
