OEM Thermostat

Where can I get a Ford OEM thermostat. Can't go to a ford dealer. I live in Germany and mustangs were never sold in Europe - it would be cheaper if I ordered it myself. - Preferably over internet.

There's no Ford dealer in Germany??? That t-stat isn't unique only to the 'stang. Anyway, I'll pick one up for you. What year and engine?

Take care,

I just ordered one from MustangsUnlimited.com a few days ago. I called two local Ford dealers and they could not tell by the part # which ones were 180*, apparently the reference #'s change often and they said they would need to open the box, check it and call me back - I thought to myself CHECK WHAT, they don't stamp the temp on the side of the t-stat! So I just ordered it online (with the correct temp rating, gasket & new bypass hose), and got it two days later - much faster & more convenient than a dealer.

Oh I also ordered a new 16lb Rad Cap while I was at it (thanks to an earlier suggestion from PKRWUD).

I got everything to my door for about $30

And how's it running?

No, but they do stamp it on the bottom.

Take care,

I didn't recall seeing it on the one I got...oh well, I didn't look that close anyway!

BTW, my car is running great now. I had recently put in some mechanical gauges -again in response to one of your posts :-) and my temp gauge was going as high as 216 - 218 (whereas my stock gauge used to happily sit near the L in NORMAL - like it was barely warm), and I saw some green slime on the side of my radiator. So I got a new radiator from Autozone for $120 - Heavy Duty, about twice the width of the stock one, and put in the new t-stat - and now I have yet to see my gauge go above 186. About a 30 degree drop in operating temp THANKS!!!

Don't thank me, you're the one who had to deal with the "green slime"!

I'm glad you're running good. It's really not difficult if you do what you're supposed to. It's all the kids who are convinced they're smarter than the engineers at Ford that never seem to fix their problems.

Hat's off to you!

I don't get it, in "NORMAL" wouldn't the "L" mean you're running hot like almost overheating?? I run anywhere from the "O" to above the "M" on my '95 GT. How is my cooling then compared to yours running on the "L"??

Who knows. The factory gauges are about as accurate as feeling the upper hose, on a good day.

There are Ford dealers in Germany. Its just the part about explaining which thermostat I need to a German who has probably never serviced or ordered parts for a mustang. Thanks for the offer to pick one up for me, that's awesome. But if I can't order over the net I'll just get my brother to send me one. Maybe I'll check out Must. Unlimited - I need a new water pump also and I'll prbably just go ahead and replace the radiator while I'm at it.

Blueneonman - I have removed the stock gauges so I guess I forgot how the word NORMAL was pointing (I thought it was Top to Bottom starting with N -> L making L the lowest reading, which is where my stock gauge always sat). If it reads from the Bottom up then I guess it would have sat next to the N. Actually, most days, it never even rose high enough from the bottom to reach any of the letters.

Watch what kind of thermostat you get. I've tried Stant lately and can verify they are crap! I tried to get a Robert Shaw locally because I needed one that day, but ended up just going to Ford for the OEM replacement which is about the best you can get along with a Robert Shaw.
