removed pcv screen-took 7qts oil
 

I removed and replaced the pcv screen and changed the oil and filter and it took 7 qts just to bring it up to the add 1 qt mark(after market dip stick)and after running the engine i rechecked it and the oil on the stick had small bubbles in it.The Chiltons book says it takes 5 qts,any ideas?'92 gt 5.0 stock as far as i know ,bought used.Also i have changed the oil on a '93 Caravan that i know takes 5 qts and when i drained the Stang it took a lot longer to drain.

yes it does take 5 quarts, and you can damage your engine by using more than that

im guessing its your aftermarket dipstick, is it some cheap autozone thing? or is it a ford replacement?

replacing the PVC screen has nothing to do with how much oil the engine will hold

not to insult you, but did you remember to put a new oil filter on before you started refilling it? http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/confused.gif

The dipstick is obviously wrong, and if you drained out 7 quarts, then it's been wrong for a while. Drain it again, install 4 quarts with a new filter. Start and run the engine for a few minutes. Shut it off and go watch TV for a while. later, after the oil has drained back to the pan, clean and reinstall the dipstick, and note where the oil level is. With a small punch, mark this point on the dipstick and reference it as your new "add 1 quart" mark. Add one more quart, run it, watch TV some more, and after it's drained again, do the dipstick thing again. The new mark will be your new full mark.

that is a good idea

but another thing i was thinking of, make sure you are getting the dipstick all the way in, if not it will read low

One other thing would be to make sure that it has the stock oil pan (although I think you would have noticed if it had a deep sump racing pan).
