what next?

i'm posting this for a friend of mine who has a 93 notchback. he wanted me to ask what you guys thought he should do next to his car. he's already got the following: moroso cold air; c&l 76mm MAF housing w/ stock sensor; motorsport pullies; motorsport 9mm wires; BBK shorty headers; a generic off-road h-pipe; flowmaster 2 1/4" cat-back; king cobra clutch; B&M shifter; 3.73 gears; motorsport sub-frame connectors; nitto drag radials.

thats what i told him. i said he needed to get some AFR's but he's kinda on a budget. what are some of his options? what about an intake?

fiveohpatrol 10-17-2001 05:49 PM

an intake will help a little bit on a stock head/cammed engine, but not enough to justify the $400+

i'd first tell him to get rid of the 2 1/4" catback and step up to a 2.5"

what about some 1.7RR's along with some new valve springs (depending on his mileage)
i've heard the 1.7 rockers wont help and can actually hurt if you have worn/ old springs, which I do and that probably explains why i saw no gain when i put them on

if he's on a budget tell him to get some GT40P heads ($99 bare each), port them a little and your ready to go, he'll also need a P specific header for these though because of spark plug angle i think?

THEN he can get the intake and a cam

many people have gotten great power out of the P heads, mid 12's is farily easily obtainable with them
good luck

I'll vote for the Juice too, Even if he replaces the exhaust with new 2.5" system probably not a big difference for the buck like the NOS would.

thanks guys! where could we pick up tose bare castings? when i asked about the intake i meant after the heads what would be the best bang for the buck intake? after we clean up the new heads what hardware should we use? rockers, valves, etc.? i'm going to tell him to go ahead and spring for a cam while we got all this apart. any suggestions? this is his daily driver so it needs to be fairly tame. any help is greatly appriciated.
