C-4 or AOD?

Hey guys, I have an 85 GT using the fact AOD which slips. I am considering switching to a c4 since I don't need the OD and I've heard it's a stronger transmission. Any thoughts would be welcomed....

Get a good, built, C4. It's lighter and stronger than the AOD. Put a good stall to match your engine and a shift kit, preferably TransGo if you have the $$$. If not go with a B&M, they're a little less than $30 and I'd say worth the money. The TransGo's are well above a hundred I think.

Is it true that one could hold the shifter in 1st w/the C4? Basically manual shifting? Or you you still need a manual valve body?
Thanks... And should it bolt up to my set up OK? ..........

You can hold 1st and 2nd with the C4. It should bolt up with your engine ok. But you may need new tranny mounts and maybe a bellhousing. Not sure if they are compatible between AOD/C4. Someone else will for sure know on here though.

I think you'll need a new flexplate too. If I remember correctly, the C4 flexplates have a different number of teeth. I'm planning on the same swap. You'll need a kickdown linkage too. AODs use a TV rod and C4s use an old-fashioned kickdown.

Thanks but actually my AOD uses the old style "fixed" kick dn. One less item I guess.
