Somebody tell me?
Taking the stock(88)upper intake off for the first time I find a stud instead of a bolt on the rear corner of the intake(TB side) with a metal rod over it. The rod bends back and over to somewhere at the back of the head(driver side) to another stud. What the hell is it and what's it for??? I can't get the intake off until I get the rod off?

im not sure exactly what it is, i took mine off about 2 years ago and cant remember where it attached, i think its just some kind of support
it hasnt messed anything up on mine yet so i bet its nothing REALLY important http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif toss it! ------------------ 88 Notch, B&M Ripper, 3.73's, Ported E7's, Explorer int. w/ ported lower, pulleys, 1.7RR's, full exhaust,65mm TB, Nitto DR's, new best 1/4--> 13.42@106.18 (1.89 short time) |

Yep, it's just a support brace to keep the intake from vibrating too much, I guess. It isn't really all that crucial. I'd doubt if many modified cars still have it around. I know mine doesn't.

That bracket attaches to the Thermactor air tube behind the head. I removed the nuts both sides of the rod and removed the rod when I pulled off the upper plenum a while back. Just another little 10 minute pain in the *** to add to the whole pain in the *** job of changing valve cover gaskets.
