Anyone ever pass emissions test with.........?
An H-pipe installed (no cats) on a 94 GT? Would the garage fine you if you have an H on?
|
I would imagine it depends on where you live. If you were here, you would fail.

Running a offroad H pipe is a clear violation of the clean air act and can bring a hefty fine, though I have not heard of anyone actually paying the 25,000 fine. Hmm maybe that's why it's called a OFF road pipe. Even if your state does not do visual inspections or emmissions tests it's still a federal violation.
Heck it's even illegal to put a aftermarket H pipe WITH cats on unless the original cats were not functioning properly or were damaged, and have over 50,000 miles or 10 years which is the emmissions warranty that Ford does not really tell you about. ------------------ Frank W 90 5.0 LX Notch MAC 2.5"cat bk FMS alu ds, MSD coil, MAC shifter 2.73 gears user site URL=http://picturecenter.kodak.com/share?invite=y8QgEr3w4PETJSxz75GUz7Mho580knQt]My 90 Notch and 88 2.3 SOLD!!![/URL] 74 Chevy Laguna Type S-3 305 now 454 soon My web site |
Speaking of little known annoying laws that no one obeys, did you know that it is against the law, in emission required vehicles, in California to replace a transmission without replacing the engine too? True story. The engine and transmission are to be replaced as an item. The engine can be replaced without replacing the tranny, but not vice-versa.

Hey Chevyguy, just move up the road to NH, plenty of shady garages that are just happy to sit in your car to sticker it and could care less about little "legal" things. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

I said "all y'all" to the "legal" things and had my car registered up north where there are no emissions tests.

More then likely your car wont pass emissions. I have an off-road X-pipe, and just for the hell of it i try to see if i would pass, and i didnt. But if you look hard enough there are ways to get around emissions.

Down here in FL we have no emmissions. It was lifted last year. I was still able to pass emmissions, when it was required, with a non-cat h-pipe. Pulled the timing plug and bumped the timing up a few or more degrees right before going through. you only have about a fifteen minute window because of severe overheating.
After passing i'd bring the timing back and put the plug back in and i was down the road! ------------------ 90 LX 5.0 ,bored 302, MSD 6AL, Twisted Wedge TrickFlo HDs, World class T5, BBK fender cold air induct., 70mm TB,Edelbrock performer Intake, aluminum Drve shaft, 3.55 Gears, Long Tube Headers to Flowmasters. |
If your gonna put an offroad pipe on the car grab the heatshields off the cat pipe and have them tack welded on. They will not fit the same as the on the stock pipe because of the diameter diff. Stuff some insulation inside it and paint it black so they cant see the pipe inside.
personally my car passes with an offroad pipe so it works out fine.
