Polishing on a GT-40 intake and a set of Cobra R's - Anyone done this?
 

I was wondering if anyone has tackled a GT-40 intake and a set of Cobra R's yet. I plan to use Aircraft stripper - sandpaper it to 800 grit or so - then finish it off with Tripoli compound and jewelers rouge. I plan to do the same to my wheels.

If you've done this before with the GT-40 and these wheels please show me your results and let me in on how you did yours.

I don't think it will. I have all the right tools available to me to open a professional polishing shop if I wanted to. I just haven't tackled anything like the GT-40 yet. I know the wheels will be easy, but I was kinda wondering if anyone has done it to tell me if the forgings under the powder coat is smooth of if they are pitted like the OEM valve covers.

hi im actually polishing the rims on my bike right i did the frame swingarm and now am working on the wheels i drum sanded all the paint of the rear wheel and ill tell you it is taking me forever to polish out al the scratches from the the sanding i had to do whats aircraft stripper and where would be a good place to look for it also any knowledge on tools and other materials i may need would be app right now i am mostly using a drill with a spiral sewn pad a dremel and a die grinder any hints or help would be greatly app thanks and feel free to email me

mustang928 - Did you do that? The first thing out of my mouth when I saw the pic was "OH MY GOD!". That is killer. That's what I want mine to look like, but I want red between the fins. I already smoothed the lower out a bit before I installed it, but it still needs a ton of work.

Aircraft stripper can be found at Auto Zone or Advance Auto parts stores. You might even find it in hardware stores. It works great for peeling powder coating off, and you won't have to use the coarse git sandpaper so it will take a lot less work to get the finish ready for buffing and polishing.

Thanks.. Yes I did polish the intake myself. I actually had the fins painted red, my car being red I thought it would look nice but once I installed it. It looked "rice" to me, didn't like it and I pulled it and went with black, much better looking IMO. To get in between the runners (sanding) I used some sanding paper that comes in a roll. Then I used an 8" spiral wheel to polish the upper intake, an 8" going blank here I can't remember the name it, but it is the last wheel you use to bring out the shine..
