Adjusting Crane 1.7 Roller Rockers
I did a search on this subject and didn't find the answer I'm looking for. I installed some Crane 1.7 RR's a few months ago and they seem to be really noisy after it warms up - kinda chimes right in with the exhaust leaks, but that's another story...
When I put them in, the engine wasn't hot by the time I got around to adjusting them. They all went in without any shims at all. I adjusted one cylinder at a time, made sure both valves were closed, tightened till the push rod just stopped turning, then cranked it down tight. Each one tightened 1/2 to 5/8 of a turn after the push rod stopped. Does that sound like I did it right, or do I need to go back and re-adjust them with the engine warm? ------------------ 86 GT, GT40P heads, Cobra cam, 1.7 RR's, Cobra intake, 65mm TB, 73mm Vortech, 24# injectors, MAC GT40P headers, 2-1/2" BBK H-pipe (w/cats), Flowmasters, 3.55s. |
Never mind - did a different search and found 93 topics, many of which answered most of my questions. My only unanswered question - do I need to redo this with the engine hot or not? Maybe I need to just live with the noise.

Torque wrench should be set at 24lbs. Shim until wrench pops between 1/2 and 3/4 turn.
Had the same problem. In some cases it won't click between 1/2 and 3/4 but try to get it as close as possible. I am assuming you have pedistal mounts? |
