metal sounds in low gear

Whenever I am in 2nd or 3rd gear going about 25-30 mph, I hear a slight metallic scraping sound. It is the same sound as if you rest your foot on the clutch while driving. I can get rid of the sound by pressing the clutch down slightly without taking it out of gear. any clues on how to fix this? I figure it is being caused from the cluth not being engaged all the way or not enough. Thnanks

Could be a number of things.

Cable could have some slack in it.

Or your throwout bushing is going, maybe time to get a clutch job.

What year car and how many miles? Any work done to it?

it is a 98 with only about 10,000 miles on it. I noticed it about 500 miles ago.

Don't u have warranty? I guess you need to look at your driving habits. Do you hold the clutch on hills, do you down shift when coming to a stop, do you peel out ocassionaly, do you hold the clutch in while at a stop light or while stopped.

yeah, it is under warranty. I just wanted to know what is causing the noise to avoid it from happening again if at all possible.
