info on all ways to up 3.8L's performance

I have a 95 mustang with a 3.8L V6. I am currently building this car as a weekend racer when I decided that I wanted to scrap the 351W project for it and create a high 12 low 13 sec V6. any helpfull hints on increase the performance or where I can find parts would greatly be appreciated.

thanks

Summit, u can get chips for the v6s i dont know how much they r, but they modify the air/fuel ratio, ignition and ignition wires, dual exhaust. Do you have any race shops in the area?

thanks for the reply. i currently have dual exhaust off a 2000 cobra, the compu-chip, msd ignition, 4.30 gears, new auburn posi, ladder bars, k&n air filter, and a b&m transpak in the auto tranny. i need some engine details on the 3.8L. i am looking for forged pistons, where to get cam and lifters, want to change intake runners, fuel injectors, and throttle body. but where can i find this stuff? is there anything we can do to the heads? cause when its all said and done the icing on the cake is going to be a vortech supercharger. and last, does anyone know what the factory hp and ft-lb are for a 95 3.8L?

thanks

stock hp on the 94-98 V^ stang is
144hp and 185 lbs
0-60 - 9.9 (auto) 17.5 1/4 mi
just 4 hp more than the t-bird of the same years.

Your talking about dome pistons. U can mill off some on the headers on the older cars not for sure on the newer ones because they are to close to the pistons and you could mess them up easily. Have u increased the timing yet?

To get answers on everything u need to find a Hot rod and detail shop. they would be able to answer your questions.

One word to instantly put you in the 13's possibly 12's with good tuning and driving....Supercharger I know they are expensieve but that is part of the price of going fast in s small displacement motor.I have seen some of the vortaeched cars run with everything stock and been all over the 13's...Now to try and answer some of your existing questions though...On the cam note you will probaly have to get a regrind or check into the 99 up cam it is different than yours...The pistons TRW should have them at least in hyperutechnic...The inake I would just extrude hone the one you have the 4.2L/99 up 3.8 intake is to much of a pain in the but to make fit for the minimal HP gain...If you don't want to just go ahead an port you own heads the 99 up heads have a slight redesign that supposedly make them better...The throttle body you should be able to make a 5.0/4.6 one work with a little fab work just look ant the 4 differnent designs (86-93 5.0,94/95 5.0,96-up 4.6 SOHC and 96 up 4.6 DOHC)and see which one would be easiest to make fit.

If you want lost horsepower put the 99-2000 heads and intake on your car. You should gain about 40 rwhp. Underdrive pullies. There is a place in canada that makes a cam for a v6. Best bet with a supercharger is to make sure you put new fel-pro gaskets for the heads. anymore questions email me at _US_MALE@yahoo.com

99GTpony: Uh, no. Your numbers are correct for 94 V6s only. 95-98s have 150hp/215lb/ft of torque, and 0-60 in 8.3 seconds.

Signifigantly different.

My mom drives a 99 Mustang GT convertable.

Jbuss: I wouldn't reccomend trying to make a 12 second 3.8 Mustang...you're only asking for trouble.

Just buy an old 5.0 for real cheap and have fun with it. Keep your V6 as your everyday car.

Ok, here the mods ive done to my 3.8 l V6. First off, it was Dark Green, and just a stock coupe. Then, i went out and bought a red convertible 5.0 GT. That was the best and only mod ive done hehe. Not to try to be mean or anything, but while the 3.8 does have serious potential, your better off gettin a loan on a GT or cobra or something bigger. I love my V6, its REALLY solid, but if you want serious speed and performance, g the GT route.

99GTpony 11-21-2000 12:46 AM

wow, im sorry, i thought they were the same up till 98, oh well i still could rip apart one with my 95 v6 t-bird, and especialy with my 99 cougar. but thanks for the info, is that 0-60 time for the Auto or the stick, cause i know the auto is a dog and robs the car of a lot of time.?

Sac68 11-23-2000 10:59 AM

No problem. The 0-60 time is for the 5speed. I'm not sure what the auto is rated at....probably not to bad, they seem to have pretty effecient trannys.
