Head bolts
I put some majorly worked over 302 heads on and was strapped for coin so I put the old head bolts back on. One bolt broke after about 6000 miles and I never really made a bunch of passes with it. My buddy Jason, who had 12 mustangs never had his old bolts break. Is changing head bolts on new heads a golden rule?

Yes,I started putting new bolts in years ago,but for other reasons.
Nowadays going with new head bolts or studs have several advantages. ARP bolts can be torqed alot harder than stock ones. Hence holding higher compression motors and not loosening up under the high stress. If you have ever measured the lenght of a older bolt to a new one,you might be amazed. The higher quality bolts dont stretch out like the stock ones, creating a much more solid hold on everything. |
