15 Volts in a '67
Can anyone tell me if I have an electrical
problem here? I've got a '67 convertible, and the regulator generally kicks out 14 to 15 volts. The car runs fine, and all the electrical stuff works, but I just got a Whistler AC inverter that automatically cuts out when the input rises over 15V. So it keeps reseting on me; what a pain. So I figure the regulator is screwed up, but then I thought maybe that's just the way they work? Does anyone know what voltage I should see out of a properly functioning regulator? Thanks, Brad ------------------ '67 289 converible |
I think you should be between 13 1/2 and 14 1/2 volts, but 15 isn't all that uncommon. My 66 runs about 14 1/2 most of the time, but with out any accessories on, I can see 15 volts. Any more than this and you should worry about over charging the battery. You might try a new regulator, and see if it sets you up a little lower.

That sounds a little high. You should get that checked out. I think Pep Boys can check that with out taking your car apart. Probably free too. If you put too much juice in your battery you will slowly cook it too death. Good Luck.

At idle my '66 shows 13.5 Volts. At higher rpm it shows 15 volts. This is with a new Ford regulator, so yours looks just right to me.
