Head Porting
Has anyone used "CNC Ported Power Heads" by PC Automotive? I was planning on getting some Windsor Jr.s for my 289, but now I'm wondering if I should have my '65 289 heads ported instead. My heads already have 1.94/1.60 valves and screw-in studs. The motor is pretty mild (206/214@.050 & 9.3 comp)and doesn't go above 5500 RPM. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Your car sounds like it is set up VERY close to what I have. I've got the Windsor Jr.s and a small cam also. They work great, I pocket ported mine, and the exhaust is polished. Feels like about 50 hp more than the stock heads, and the throttle response is excellent. Compared to the stock head on a 289, you do lose a bit of compression, so that is something the stockers have going for them. Really good ported stockers should give you about the same power output, so let the price be your deciding factor. Remember, with the windsor jr.'s, you can run into header problems--been there, done that--but on the other side of the coin, if you ever want more power, they could be ported out.

Thanks, I didn't know the spark plugs were relocated. Since I can barely get a socket on plugs 3 & 6, I'll stick to porting. If I need more, well, there's always a 351W or a paxton http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif
