interior painting of '68
 

Since this is such a great place for a guy trying to restore his first mustang, I'll throw out a second question. I am in the process of starting to repaint the interior. I tried this before without much luck. 1) How can I get the paint to stick on the glove box/underneath dash area (around ignition, etc). It seems to want to run and streak. Secondly, am I using the right kind of paint? I bought some IVY Gold paint from National Parts Depot (a mustang supply store).

Any tips/advice on preparation are greatly appreciated.

Painting takes some touch, don't lay it on to thick. I usually apply three light coats. The first coat dosn't usually cover the original paint or primer completely.

Lightly sand and wipe away the dust with some thinner before you paint.

Do I need primer? There is no exposed metal or anything, the paint just doesn't look good from a couple years ago when I tried. I would like to make it consistent. Speaking of interiors, do you know how to clean the chrome like around the windows on the inside--looks very unsightly--almost like rust spots.

Only need primer on unpainted surfaces. 5 very thin coats is better than 1 or 2 thick coats.

Thanks--the interior painting went much better this time. With that and the new instrument cluster and camera case finish on the dash, the car looks almost brand new! The many thin coats is definitely the way to go.
