Wider tires

How wide can one go on the rear tires/wheels of a 88-93? Also, what tire/wheel combo do you guys run?

All depends on which rim you are running and what the offset is. I have Cobra R's and have 255/45's in the back and that is the widest I can go. The tire is like 1/4" from the inner fender. I think the offset on my rear rims is 5.95.

275/40's will fit with a little help from mr. mallet. On my car a panhard bar was necesary to keep the rear end from wandering in turns causing the tires to rub. But my car is really low. I've seen 295/50's on lots of cars, none were lowered and some had been raised up.
