Cobra Jet or No?

My 67 has a 428 w/C-6. Is there any visible way to tell if it is a Cobra Jet or just plain FE without locating block numbers? Air cleaner decals say Cobra Jet..but those are just decals. Also has cobra jet emblems on fenders..but those are just emblems.

i have a 428 cobra jet but have never seen a regular 428. i know that the cobra jet has larger valves and ports in the heads and in the intake. There are also other differences but the easist way for to tell would be to check the numbers then u really know for sure.

To my knowledge, the only way that you could get a 428 in a '67 Mustang was in a Shelby GT500 which came with a 2x4 setup. 67's only came with 390's. In '68 was the first time that they offered the 428 Cobra Jet in a regular Mustang.

1994 Mustang GT with 110K miles, ported cobra intake, ported edlebrock heads, 1 3/4" long tube, b303 cam, 2 chamber flowmasters, cobra-r wheels, cobra front brake kit, saleen wing, recaro seats, radar detector, etc.

I know the 428 is not original motor. Car is S Code fastback with 428 in it now.

Hey, another S-Code fastback! Cool! Unfortunately, there isn't any visible difference to tell you. Even the casting number on the block won't help you a whole lot. The cylinder heads can give you information since they're C80E's and will have the 16 hole bolt pattern. The funny thing is, and CJ owners are gonna want my head for this, Carrol Shelby himself said the 428CJ didn't make any more power than the PI 428's in the 67 Shelby's. Alot of folks didn't believe him so they did a dyno test. They were virtually dead even.

Didnt the Cobra Jet have both vertical and diagonal exhaust manifold bolt paterns? The other FE's I thought had only vertical. SCJ has a external weight on the front of the crank because of the LaMans rods. Just trying to confuse everyone a little more http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif

Yeah, that's what I meant by 16 hole bolt pattern. Where you at brother?

I dont normally repeat an answer somone has already given. The post was not intended to hurt anyone but only to help. To Gichigumi,MustangWorks and its members,I apologize. Nobody knows everything and that especially means me. I respect everyone and expect no less in return.

What I meant by "Where you at?" was were are you located in Tennessee, not that you weren't paying attention.
