engine misses and cuts out at high rpms
my engine misses and cuts out at high rpms when i run through the gears. im thinking it might be the spark plug wires and distributor cap since there about 5 years old. i have the pertronics electronic ingition and i dont think that is it, any other idea?

If the cap and wires are 5 years old, then definitely start there. How old are the plugs? Suprises me that anyone would let any ignition parts go 5 years.

The plugs are brand new, but i havent had the time or money for the plug wires, i bought a distributer cap last year and it didnt fit right so i took it back, but i got a new distributer so i might and get a new one and hopefully it will fit right.

Could be a number of things. If it runs fine at low RPMs I would think it could be something possibly with advance/distributor or even a fuel problem. I had a problem like that on a truck I had and it ended up being the carb. Good Luck

I have had two problems with my car idling fine but cutting out at higher rpms. One was the fuel pump going bad and the other was a wire at the Starter Cellunoid(sp?) wasnt tightened down correctly and was arcing at the higher rpms. I know thats pretty weird but I couldnt't figure it out until it got dark because I never thought to check there. I had another problem with pitted contacts inside the dist. cap but if you have electronic ignition you should be ok there.

i dont think its the carb b/c i just put my cousins holley on there and it does the same as my edelbrock does.

I had a similar problem once and it was a faulty coil. I think it was the secondary windings.

Go get a set of wires, cap and rotor. Sure sounds like a secondary break down. And if they're 5 years old they need to be replaced.
