Shebly Coupes?

All the Shelby mustangs I see are fastbacks. Did they ever make shelby mustang coupes in 1967-68? I did see a picture in Mustang monthly of a '67 shelby GT350 "coupe" racing a '68 camaro Z/28 back in the 60's, was this a mistake?

Does anyone here know?

Well, lets answer your question about the Shelby Coupes first. Yes and no. There was no regular production Shelby Coupes made.

But there were two experimental Shelby Mustang coupes made in 1968 (pretty sure it was 68, could be 67) One was called "Little Red", it was a Red coupe with a dual quad 428 that wore twin Paxton superchargers. As far as records show, it was crushed.

Then you had the car know as Green Hornet, its still around, and was discovered several years back, although records shown that car was destroyed also, but the owner of the Green Hornet has subastantial proof that it is the orginal. It had just a dual quad 428 Super Cobra Jet.

In 1967 there were no convertibles offered. Convertible Shelbys started Regular production in 1968. Heres the figures for convertibles.

GT-350 Converts......404
GT-500 converts......402
GT-500 KR Verts......318

Hope I was able to help. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

All the books and mustang literture I have doesn't show any production coupes. Only fastbacks and coverts.

My Books and literature didnt show any coupes being made also, but Mustang Monthly several years back found out about the coupes, the two Shelby had made in 68.

I also heard from the guy that owns the Mustang Shop I buy parts from, but I thought he was BS'n.

Heres the Beef.

Yes, 20 coupes were sent to Carroll in 1966 as 1966/67 model car.

Ford decided to win in every production class they could.

4 of them raced in Group 1 sedan, under apendix J provisions. The others raced in group 2. These cars raced in Trans-Am FIA.

The rules in this class was full interior, steel hood and NO fastback. About everything else flew.

They were all prepared to the same specs as the 350 R, K code etc.

They were not sold for the street. Although there are some tagged now.

Just trying to help.
