EEC Self Test starts on its own...what's going on???

Hey everyone,
On my 1994 Cobra, the EEC self test starts on its own in the morning...I have nothing hooked up, not the jumper to start it or anything. I start it and it just starts, the 4 CE flashes to indicate cyl. and then it continues...

Any ideas as to why?

This is in addition to a driveability problem I have, where it hesitates, bucks at part throttle conditions, but ok at idle and WOT.

My car is mainly stock, stock GT-40 iron heads, stock cam, stock Cobra intake, 75mm bullet, 65mm TB, exhaust work, no chip or anything, MSD ignition. The plugs are brand new, plug wires are new...

Any help is appreciated, I don't want to bring this to the dealer if I don't have to.

Thanks!

Sounds like either a major prob with the eec or a simple problem like wire harness shorts(possibly intermittent) Do you have access to a DMM? (digital multimeter) You need to get an ohm meter at the wire harness. Get a wiring diagram of your car (public libraries have chiltons on microfilm sometimes. But once you have a wire diagram, see if you can't find any shorts. I know, it sucks a whole lot having electrical problems, imagine this... A squirrel chewed up my main harness connector that goes into the car through the firewall (the one that carries all the wires to the eec) I had to go at it with a soldering iron and a wiring diagram until I got it back together, I still have some minor probs from it. But, the self test thing sounds like either, you have some weird short that causes it to think you've got a scan tool attached, or the eec is screwed. Good luck man.
