What does 96 gt stock turn in 1\4?

I raced a 4.6L 96 mustang yesterday and it just seemed to me the race was too close, i have light-moderate mods and i felt i should have had him by more than what i did, although i must admit he got me off the line because my rear 245\50's are bald as hell, so i had to ease out the hole. What do those things run in the 1\4???

Try Me 03-01-2001 09:19 AM

Maybe 14.5?
My '97 Vert ran 14.8, stock.

302 LX Eric 03-01-2001 09:25 AM

STOCK I would have to say high 14's to very low 15's. These Stangs just didn't have the power to move like the new ones. Plus they are a bit on the heavy side - especially when compared to Coupes like mine - 3040 lbs.

Try Me - You got a 14.8 out of your stock 97? That sounds pretty damn good to me. Maybe there's hope for mine yet. I always figured the 96-97's were a solid 15 sec car. Z28EATR, if you have light mods (what year is your car?) then I would figure he wasn't stock at all if he kept up with you. I'm too shy to run at our track. I'm just paranoid that everyone would laugh at a 15 sec Stang (even though it's all supposed to be fun). Maybe I'll get the balls this spring 'cause i'm sick of not knowing what my car can do to establish a baseline.

Try Me I crown your car the most powerful stock 1996-1998 4.6L 2v to ever roll off Ford's assembly line.

A off the floor a stock coupe should run about 15.0-15.2, a 'vert around 15.2-15.4.

That's the best time I've ever heard for a stock 1996-1998 GT period, including the coupe.

My friends vert 96 AODE runs 15.5s day in, day out. It's getting a 99 heads cams and intake swap as we speak.

Z28EATR 03-01-2001 02:40 PM

my mods are, 3 pulley set, electric fan, 14degrees advanced timing, bbk shorties, off road h, 2chamber flow catback system, hd tremec t-5, 3.08 rear out of aod, pro 5.0,ram air system, lowering springs, adustable caster cambers. I think thats about it performace wise, ive only taken it down the track 2 times, first pass was 15.01 @ 95mph and the second was a 14.59 @ 97 mph. I know my car is faster than that but the rear tires slip really bad out of the hole.

Z28EATR 03-01-2001 02:42 PM

almost forgot, my car is an 88 ragtop i weighed it once with alot of stuff in it including myself, it was 3540. Dam thats heavy

Try Me 03-02-2001 04:29 PM

Road and Track says 15.2.
After about 30 runs in a row, i was running 14.9.
Then i must have gotten a good tail wind and hit 14.8-LIZARD KING will vouch for me.

Don't tell anyone, but 3.73's are in the near future. I'm told they're good for .3 to .5?
I think if i can manage around 14.0 i'll be laughing!

STEPHAN - don't sweat it man, 'cause when the top is down - things are cool :-)

AJSTANG 03-02-2001 08:47 PM

The car mags say low 15's and that's what I've observed at the track.

95GTS 03-02-2001 11:31 PM

Sorry but I'd have to see that 97 run to believe that. My coupe w/out traction and 3.73s will only run a 15.0 @94.4 and there's no way a vert will get that close when they way damn near 3800 lbs. If you don't believe me on the vert weight go into windsor power and ask Killercanary. His is a yellow 95 vert and I believe his weighs pretty close to that. My GTS only weighs 3200 and runs a 15.0. A stock, heavier car will not run faster than that even with slicks. With my 2.73s I was running a 15.4. The early 4.6 SOHC is a turd to say the least.

I hear ya Try Me... I just have to get a few mods and see what happens. The first gen 4.6's may be turds but money can cure that game. Oh well, at least for now I can get a sunburn for cheap.

96GTS-ill try to find the slips from the track, ill scan them and post them, i weighed my car at a uhaul place and the schmuck told me it was within 60-80 pounds accuracy. It weighed in at 3540 with sh*t in the trunk and me inside. I know i still have the reciept and i can post. As far as my mph, ill look at the slips again but im sure thats what they say, take into consideration they sprayed down the burnout box with water and i couldnt get around it, also it was only my second pass at the track ever, i think my reaction time was like .866 which i assume is not so hot. My buddy also told my my 60ft times sucked but i cant remember what they were.

Unit 5302 03-05-2001 05:25 PM

Before you get all riled up Z28EATR take another look at 96GTS's post. He's talking about Try Me's 14.8 claim on a stock 97 GT convert.

I must admit, I remain quite skeptical myself, hehe.

Oh, I'm pretty sure a 97 GT convert weighs a hell of a lot less than 3800lbs. If I'm correct your talking in the neighborhood of about 3600lbs.

Lizard King 03-05-2001 08:21 PM

Seen it, 14.8 is true. He was running like a dog all evening,... 15.0-15.4, and then popped a 14.9, and finally got a 14.8 in the last runs of the night.

How is it that TRY ME and LIZARD BOY have some out rageous times and the only people that can back them up are each other ??? Not trying to flame its just that I still remain skeptical. Many have tried but no one that I've seen at the track has ever pulled it off. Bad drivers in cali? With 70 degree weather during the the weeks of august. I dunno what to say.

What can I say... maybe we have magical powers... Fostang, I have a video that proves my time...
I run a 13.9@82MPH with a 200lb camera man in the car. I had to break at the end to make sure I don't bust my braket set at 13.9.

Usually 13.7 at 100MPH.

look at http://members.mustangworks.com/liza...artermile.mpg9

It ain't BS.

VERY GOOD POINT FOSTANG.

People, please don't put all your faith in magazines.

Anyways, I am quite confident that with a good driver, tires, powershifting, tuning, and timing that an SN95 GT could get into the mid to upper 14s.

13s? Now that is another story. Sorry for being so stubborn, but I'd have to have some undeniable evidence that anyone's TOTALLY STOCK GT could even dip into the 13s if I'm gonna believe it. Now high 14s, I'm cool with that.
Yes, horsepower matters and the GTs just don't have enough for that bracket.

Can anyone blame me for being skeptical???? Lizard King? Try Me?

Basically, I was saying that mid (believable) to high (much more believable) 14s is believable for an SN95 GT. Thus, I have no problem with 14.8 b/c you can't say that all GTs run 15.1 exactly. No way.
