FUEL PUMP RECOMMENDATIONS?

My fuel pump has been whining alot lately and I have read that the whining is and indication of failure in the not so distant future. I would like to go with a 155 or 190. The BBK looks like it comes with about everything but I have heard nightmare stories about the Throttle bodies they make. Any recommendations. Oh yeah, I've read the installation in "5.0 projects" but is there anything else I need to know aside from "don't smoke" thanks again. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif

I dont think whining is anything to worry about. I would leave it alone. My new pump whines more than my old one.

It is also the original 137,000 mile 1986 pump. The noise is getting louder IMO. I can't afford to get stranded because it takes about 2 weeks to get anything here (then I usually find out I need something else too). The consensus says 190 lph. I am more concerned with getting a pump that comes w/hardware than I am with the price. Can anyone recommend a brand?

I don't know about brand but I would say if you can afford it go with the 255, that way you're safe for even more mods and don't have to switch out the fuel pumps again(not too fun from what I hear). On a side note when I got my exhaust installed over a year ago my pump was whinning real badly(getting louder now) and they said it was going out. I talked to my mechanic about 3 weeks ago and he said it was probably going too but that you can never tell with fuel pumps, it could last another year or go out tommorow.

Your fuel pump should not whine. When it's running you should be able to hear a very quiet whirring sound.

Mine was whining for quite a while before it finally kicked the bucket, but with those kind of miles, you're already pressing the envelope.

I don't understand why people want to go so much bigger on fuel pumps than necessary. It adds cost, electical draw, and puts undue pressure on the fuel return system and regulator. Unless you are going to use a power adder, 155 lph is the most versitle pump at the best price for you. If you plan on using a supercharger, or NOS, then go with a 190 lph, if you plan on going all out, then maybe the 255. In your scenerio as it sits, you'd be fine with a 110 lph unit. Stock is only about 88 lph, which should support about 250hp in prime condition.

this is what is recremened..if your going to have a real fast all motor car then get a 255..if you are ganna have a mild all motor car or will be putting a blower on then get a 190(with blower you will run a inline fuel pump also)..i dont see any scense on getting anything less than a 190..specially cuz its only $10 more
