Back in the saddle again!!!
I put my engine back together and headed out to Gratiot to catch a few runs.
The first was a stock looking black LT1 Z28. We went from a mid 2nd gear roll, and by the time I shifted into 3rd he was visible in my rearview. I kept in it till the top of 3rd and had many carlenghths. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif He said at the next light that he runs high 13's. The second race was a red Fox GT. It had a nice lumpy idle, but also had 2 passengers. I let him have the jump then skated by about the same as the Z28. Then comes the good race. It was a sweet black LT1 SS that had "FORCFED" for a plate, along with a cage (I think?..) and an Autometer catalog of gauges. He had a very nice audible whine. We cruise next to each other for a mile or so to let traffic clear, hsssss says the bottle as it opens, then hit it from my 2nd gear. We are pretty much next to each other with me edging slightly. Shiftlight-bang 3rd and I keep inching ahead till the top of 3rd where we both let off. I had about a car on him. My plate reads 12SECGT and said something like yeah right 12 seconds! What 12 seconds flat? I said yeah, 12 flat on street tires. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif We chatted at the next light for a second then I came home. ------------------ 1988 Mustang GT 12.0 @ 122 1992 BadAzz Wrangler 1993 Explorer |

Sounds like a hell of a kill(s). I can't wait to get the motor back in my stang. Then the kill's will come a postin.

My car was apart for 3 weeks and I was jonesin' like a crack ***** !!!!
|
That's awesome! I haven't had a good race in a long time. 12 seconds flat on street tires huh? What all have you done to your car? Wish my car ran 12 flat! =P Good kill's. See ya.

I have a stock short block, ported TFS heads, ported GT-40, E-303, full exhaust, the usual stuff. Also a 100 shot of nitrous.
My car is pretty light though. 2760 lbs without me. |
SOunds like your car is running real strong....what happened to the motor?
------------------ '86 GT. Gears & Flows '87 GT. Stock |
It is running a LOT better now. My TFS Twisted Wedge heads were wasted. It was ticking all the time after numerous valve adjustments, and burning mega oil.
I had the old cast iron guides in them and almost all of them were oval. Also my valves were floating so bad that the retainers were beating into the valve tip and mushroomed most of them. Now I have new bronze manganese guides, all new valves, and triple valve springs. 380.00 later..... |
Nice to see your gettin some good runs there rob. Damn, Im dying to finish my nitrous install now. Hell, Im doing it tomrrow morning! You got me motivated http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif.
Hey since we have very similar motors can I ask you a few questions on the NOS? I have a wet kit, but how much timing do you retard, and what plugs/gap do you run etC? exgm - Nice kills. Good to hear that you got the head thing worked out.

I sold the blower. I am getting married July 1st and could'nt put the money needed into the blower to make it work right. (brackets, 42 lb injectors, custom chip, dyno tune, powerpipe)
Sky, I have the dry stage 1 shot that I jetted for approx. 100 hp. I set it up to spray a little rich so I don't take any timing out at all. I run 15 degrees base timing. I could probably lean out the spray a little, but I wanted a good margin of saftey. For plugs I use Champion RC9YC's gapped at .035. |
Rob- Thats cool. Im running 16 base now, and I'd like to be able to leave it there for a 125shot. What did you do to run it richer? It calls for 40psi fuel pressure, did you just up that? Or I bet I could get a larger fuel jet than its calibrated for for a cirtain HP?

I don't know about wet kits, but my dry kit has a "fuel jet", and a "nitrous jet". The nitrous jet obviously meters the amout of n2o released into the engine.
The fuel jet is used to regulated n20 that is applied to the fuel pressure regulator diaphram. This does not allow gas to return to the tank, therefore spiking fuel pressure. On my kit the fuel jet is actually a bypass jet. For me to increase fuel pressure on the spray I use a smaller fuel jet. Less nitrous is let into the engine via the vacuum line, and applied to the fuel pressure regulator. Sorry if that sounds stupid. 4:20 was about 2 hours ago..... http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif |
I would go up 2 jet sizes on fuel for your wet kit and spray it in 3rd gear after the cars has really warmed up. Any hint of detonation, get off the throttle.
I did this at the track and pulled over on the return road and checked a few plugs. Look for melted electrodes, melted porcelin, sparkles from melted aluminum. The tips of my plugs are white, but there is a little grayish tinge to one specific spot on each plug. Oh yeah, no more 87 octane. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif I run Sunoco 94 just to be safe. |
