what am I supposed to do here??

OK, before I start, remember, I'm not bragging about this, I just wanna know what to do..

Story starts, gf and I are cruising up King St (K-W) and stop at a red light.. (I'm in right lane, someone else is in left lane, and the right lane ends in 100 meters, merges with left)

So, I look over to see who I have to get ahead of (or fall behind, haha), and its a newest-generation Saturn LS2 (is that what they are called?)

Well, I think no prob, don't wanna be a dick, just wanna get ahead of traffic..

but, buddy (late teens, early 20's in age) in the saturn looks over, grins, revs his car, and moves up a few inchs, and revs some more...

So, what am I supposed to do, kick his *** bigtime (or do people like that even deserve to race me?) or just do what it takes to get ahead of him??

I just don't like to race people who I know won't stand a chance against me, that thing is like over 2 seconds slower 0-60 than mine, but, if I don't show him ho's "boss", he'll cock off to his friends that he beat a STANG !

So, in the future, should I beat/race all people who try to show-off?, or should I just let them do their thing, knowing I'm faster??

(remember, I'm only 22 myself!)

Thanks,
Jani

PS: Oh, in case you wanted to know the outcome, I killed him off the line, barked 2nd, and held till 65MPH... then backed off, he was about a 1/4 mile back !! : )

What I do is just give enough juice to kinda get even with them and then let off ever so slightly so that they just barely win. Why not make their day for them. Who cares if they "beat a Stang"? Anyone who knows anything will know the truth. The others don't really matter.

I usually don't give em the time of day. However, if anything I will chirp the tires off the line and proceed to accelerate like an 89 year old. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

The chirping gets them to beat on their car while I laugh! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

I usually just look at them and shake my head and take what is rightfully mine http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif.

Screw that! I'll race! Its no challenge yeah, but if hes cocky, why should there be a question? In my stang, I, yes I, have actually been turned down like that. "I usually just look at them and shake my head," Our cars our supposed to be fun. Theres no reason for that. You can teach him something. Now now above all, if its a hot street and I can feel it, then no. But if it was fine then I would of raced him, let off to make it even, gain, let off, then kill while waving "bye bye" out the window. Every time I do it, I enjoy it. That makes a simple, easy race with a slower car exciting.

what's really fun is to take it slow and stay next to them. Let them think they are doing pretty well. Then at about 3 grand in second I like to punch it and smoke the tires next to them. It's pretty funny to see their disappointment. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/cool.gif

One thing about racing someone in a slower car is that him/her and I both know who is the favourite. I hate racing people when I am the favourite.

I absolutely LOVE to be the underdog when racing. It prevents unwanted http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif outcomes and can produce some suprising ones! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

One fun way to deal with idiots like him is to go ahead and make a visible effort but let him win by just a foot or three. Maybe even let him do it twice and at the next light smoke him so bad he'll have nightmares about being molested by a horse.

jetuomi 08-07-2001 05:38 PM

so am I supposed to choose one now??

haha

thanks for the insight !!

Rev 08-07-2001 05:40 PM

Gotta be careful though. I let a Nissan GTR go first and then had to struggle to stay even to 60. I posted it as "Nissan suprises me".

happens to me quite a bit, i see long line in left lane so i jump to right lane to get in front, i look as i am coming up to see who is there. most time i'll jump and take the lane but sometimes i'll jump and if they do i let them go ahead and i just move over to lane behind them

Here's what I would do, stay with him for a few hundred feet or so, then look him directly in the eye and give him a bigass grin. Punch the pedal and smoke the tires leaving him with a lump in his throat.

wrathchild 08-12-2001 12:19 AM

Doesnt matter who, where or what they are driving, i will always give em a run. That is why i have a mustang. Well that and they sound and look good.

I like to let them get ahead, pull up even, blip (on and off) the throttle while staying even (showing them it is effortless), then scream away like someone lit my azz on fire. I get picked on all the time here in So Cal. They think because it's an "old car" they're ricer/BMW/Merc/CamVetto/etc...... can beat me. I embarrased a clown in a BMW M5 to the point I though he was going to cry.

gp, my car is not near as quick as yours, but I too think it's funny when people just think it's another "old car". The look on their faces is priceless whether I win or lose. Not too may losses, hee, hee.

I second what smithbling said. Bark the tires and then just drive normal and watch them ounish the hell out of their little cars. Another good one is to sarcastically fake yawn. Make sure they can tell your yawning at their car.
