ok, going to throw my .02
I am THE kid that grew up playing video games... born in '74 had the following:
atari 2600
atari 7800
NES
game boy (it counts)
sega MS
SNES
sega 16
turbographics 16 (kick @ss!)
Playstation (went through 3 of em)
Nintendo 64
Playstation 2
My computer...

Dont get me started on arcade games....to make it quick, I used to compete in street fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat tournaments! lol

no, I wasn't spoiled...I bought everything after the NES...

After all that, here is my take on the current state of gaming:

If you are over 13 years old, dont purchase the game cube...nintendo's track record for being a kids machine is in no danger of changing.

Want some really good PC ports? possible expantion, more mature games? (HALO) get the X-Box.

Want arcade quality with a DVD player that doesn't work that well? PS2 is for you. Dont get me wrong, great machine...dvd playback isn't up to par though.

Want to experiance total immersion? Turn off all the lights, put on a good set of headphones, and play Aliens Vs Predator 2 as a Marine....Try to tell me your heart rate doesn't increase to a rapid beat...Then jumping in your seat like a scared kid cause you just got pounced on by everyones favorite E.T.
