I would use 12 or 14 gauge wire. As far as a fuse/circuit breaker, check the fan to see how many amps it's supposed to pull, and add 20% (for example, if it says it has a 50 amp draw, use a 60 amp fuse/circuit breaker).
As far as your switch is concerned, the ground connection is for the built in light. You can only use that switch if it is used to close a relay that then supplies power to the fan. If you try and wire the power from the switch to the fan, you will melt that switch in no time flat. Always use a relay.
