Most engines do that, simply because the power picks up at some rpm. On your engine, the peak torque is at 3800rpm, and peak power 4800. If you were to get a dyno graph from the car (or another 87-93 5L) you would probably see a sharp increase on the torque (and the hp cause it is dependant on torque and rpm) curve right aroun 2500 rpm, continuing up to the peak at 3800, and then a drop off shortly after that. Happens in all cars.
